In 1992, as a final project for Rudi Torrini’s Master’s Class at Fontbonne University, I modeled a nearly miniature 4 1/4” tall portrait of Scott Joplin directly in wax, which was then cast into bronze. In 2005, a gentleman requested the piece in bronze. I molded the original and the bronze edition was started. I mistakenly marked numbers 1/20, AP1/2 & AP2/2 with a copyright date of ©1991 & 2005. Future casts will be marked ©1992 & 2005, to indicate when a new mold was made. Please forgive my error.

I originally thought bonded bronze would be the perfect medium for this piece, but after making the original six casts and two artist’s proofs, I decided to make no more. Therefore, the first six were marked as though there was to be an edition of 150. I reality, there were cast only eight bonded bronze busts: six bonded bronzes that are numbered from 1/150 – 6/150, one un-numbered artist’s proof, and one simply marked AP. The bonded bronze busts do not include Joy’s mark,

This was cast in bronze and in bonded bronze. "Scott Joplin - The King of Ragtime" was modeled as a sample for The National Cosmetology Association. Both sculptures are shown at the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Foundation Inc., Sedalia, MO.
